Hello,
I’m curious, do black women like men with red hair? I came up with this question from this web site talking about red haired people http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hair
I’m curious, do black women like men with red hair? I came up with this question from this web site talking about red haired people http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_hair
One place in the article it says “Rees (2004) suggested that the vividness and rarity of red hair may lead to it becoming desirable in a partner and therefore it could become more common through sexual selection.[18]
Harding et al (2000) proposed that red hair was not the result of positive selection but rather occurs due to a lack of negative selection. In Africa, for example, red hair is selected against because high levels of sun would be harmful towards fair skin. However, in Northern Europe this does not happen and so redheads come about through genetic drift.[14]”
And in another area of the same article
States “One variety of albinism (Type 3, aka rufous albinism), sometimes seen in Africans and inhabitants of New Guinea, results in red hair and red-colored skin.[35]”
Again from the same article
“Another belief is that redheads are highly-sexed; for example, Jonathan Swift satirizes redhead stereotypes in part four of Gulliver's Travels, "A Voyage to the Country of the Houyhnhnms," when he writes that: "It is observed that the red-haired of both sexes are more libidinous and mischievous than the rest, whom yet they much exceed in strength and activity." Swift goes on to write that: "...neither was the hair of this brute [a Yahoo] of a red color (which might have been some excuse for an appetite a little irregular) but black as a sloe..."[38]”

Also in the article
"Many painters have exhibited a fascination with red hair. The color "titian" takes its name from Titian, who often painted women with red hair. Early Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli's famous painting The Birth of Venus depicts the mythological goddess Venus as a redhead. "
Venus being the Godess of love and fertility in greek myth, so I wonder if Black women and men have any thoughts about red haired people as mates or do black women and men prefer people not of the red haired community?

I can't speak for all Black people,so here are my thoughts. I don't find the combination of red hair/pale,sun resistant skin/freckles very attractive coloring among human beings. With that being said, red hair comes in a variety of shades and textures. Along with other eye color combinations too. The darker the hair and eyes, the greater sense of attraction I would feel.
Physical attractiveness is just part of an overall package for me.I'm more interested in a person's true character as barometer of attraction.
Do I believe that 'Titian' haired people are more sexually passionate? No. Much of that is a stereotype, based of a writer's romantic ideals. It's never been part of a cultural ideal in which I suscribe.
Would I purposely select a mate with red hair? No. But I wouldn't be resistant to the idea of being with a red head, if he had a great personality and emotional stability.
From my experience, I havn't witnessed or heard of a singular preference/attraction for red heads among my freinds. maybe someone else can chime in and add another perspective.
For myself, I find dark hair and light eyes very attractive, but I have seen black people with red hair, and they have looked attractive.
I DON'T like red hair...unless maybe it is more strawberry blond. I like brown hair, pale skin, and light eyes. (pale skin btw would not be benificial in Africa).
Hello,
I find this very interesting. speaking as a red head and thus prone to the "curse of the red hair" I have always had problems with my pale skin. but this like anything is something one can not change it's genetic. but I find this funny because this tells me more that My Gf is a very unique woman. I still would like to hear more thoughs about this topic so please feel free to comment and to those who commented Thank you for commenting it's very inlightening.
I don't really care what the color of someone's hair is (or eyes either). It's the full package that will determine whether I find a man attractive. I have a general preference for dark hair and dark eyes, but I have liked guys who didn't possess either. It's always seemed a little strange to me to single out someone by their hair color - especially in these days where anyone can change their hair to just about any color they like!
I LOVE red heads and they don't dislike me too much! I recall once a little red-headed toddler who tried to follow me in a parking lot. His father was embarrassed, calling after him. I said to the father: "Red heads are my market." His FACE turned red, given, well, you know, the THOUGHT of his toddler as a teen or adult partnered with a Black woman....
I prefer black/dark brown hair and dark eyes, but I definitely would rather a red-headed man over a blonde
For me the jury is STILL OUT on this one..lol
I have NEVER gotten along with any BLONDE OR red head I have ever dated!!!
There is ONE red headactor I would just love to date!!!
He starred opposite of Kate Beckinsale..Tony Curran!!! OMG Hotness!!!
But that is the only redhead I can think of!
But who knows I marrying a blonde or redhead who knows..lol
I meant to add that I prefer dark hair and light eyes...always get to me!!!
Tori
So enlighten us Ken, what is the curse of the 'red hair'?

LOL I think it was more like you might be robing the cradle LOL. but I know what you mean I'm a redhead and My GF is Black. I look forward to marring her and having a child with her. we often wonder if the child will have red hair. to think of a woman with redhair who is AA. LOL "don't make this one mad" I joke with My Queen.

The "curse of the red hair" is talking about the bundle that most red heads have; pale skin, freckles, red hair, and more often then not a temper.
I think it all depends on the person. I have seen quite a few attractive red head guys. Simon Pegg from "Shawn of The Dead" for example (i guess he's considered a red head)
http://www.cinemablend.com/images/news_img/6498/6498.jpg
and charlie clements from a uk soap called EastEnders :

I don't know about that question???? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...I love red hair, freckles and the whole nine personally. I think that every person has their own set of preferences, based upon their own filters...upbringing, open-mindedness, and simple attraction. I usually like men of two different extremes...light (slightly-pale rugged) or dark (deep dark brown). I'm not really a 'tweener no reason it just that way and I love men that look don't look like everyone else which is where the red-heads come into place...
I have never dated one, but I admit that I'm attracted to red-heads. That hair color catches my eye more than any other color of hair. I like the variations of the color as well; the more intense/read, the more second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. looks I'll give.
I'm not particular, but I find red haired men just as attractive as dark and blond haired men. I love the black hair/blue eyes and blonde/light eyes combos, but I also adore freckles (cause I got them myself)
In the end, whatever catches my eye, but I've heard the saying that red haired men are more prone to being attracted to women of color. I don't know if that is true, but hey. I'm all for a bit of "red" this way...lol

Nice blog....
My last bf was a redhead; my first and I won't say my last, but I wasn't particularly drawn to the color, or anything. It was just him. I guess I find dark hair attractive, but as long as it works for you, I'm down for anything.
Personally,
For me, I find various hair shades beautiful. I look at the whole package. I used to have a *thing* for the Mediterranean type. But now I see the chestnuts, the blonds and of course the red heads. :o)))
I can say hey, WOW that blond is geogeous but then here comes this red head who is outstanding. It depends on the man. As of right now I don't have a preference. But that red hair is unique. :o)
I can't say that I don't like some type or another--again, it is the package.
Hey, I henna my hair to get that red-tint!!
Here is a redhedd web site. Scroll down it talks about the guys.

This is interesting because I had actually thought of putting together a blogposting dedicated to red head men. They seem to get the short end of the stick thanks to the "Opie-ism" in media of red haired men.
I like this web site. You're very straightforward. You come across as a nice, normal guy, not shady, or hiding anything.
As for red heads: to me you look like a brown haired guy. That's the thing - unless the guy has flaming red / bright strawberry colored hair - I can't tell if a man is a red head. Although if he's attractive (overall) the red hair is a bonus.
Useless factoid: I read that red heads have the same (heavy) bone density as blacks. Interesting.
Hmmmmm
red hair..it is honestly not my first pick...but I would take it and judge it on an individual basis...so I woould not rule it out. Also I am more inclined to like red hair on a woman, than a man..as much as I can like it..I am not a lesbian (not that there is anything wrong with that)
I have noticed, that some extremely pale people (NOT ALL) have a curious and repulsive similar smell..I know it is not a nice thing to say..and it is really rare, but I have noticed this smell on people in different countries who are not related..it is a weird smell..and very off putting..that also turns me off.
having said that, I think the author of this blog is very cute ( with his red hair) and lovely, and I am sure he does not have that smell...

Hello,
LOL it seems that most people like red hair on women but men get the shaft(to bad most of the men don't look or act like Shaft). Anyway as fot the smell, I don't think i smell, I take showers every day couse when I work out or work hard then I sweet and then I smell. Its funny the things that turn us off. when a woman sweats she glissons when a man sweats he is nasty and sweaty lol. My Queen told me today she would not have liked me if she did not meet me through her friend/ my cousin. she has had many bad experiensed with red headed men. but the women were cool for the most part. but she said I was a real find because I'm normal lol and she loves my red hair now lol. it's funny how red heads have to show who they are to overcome the streotype or society and some bad experences.
This is slightly off topic but I have found that the paler a mans skin, the more likely he is to have a zillion moles or freckles EVERYWHERE - his back, chest, legs etc. So NOT appelaing to me. It gets worse because as paler skin ages (both male and female) they develop these weird raised warty bumps all over! They look pretty ugly to me and I certainly DO NOT wish to be confronted with that sight daily. In short I prefer olive skin and darker hair.
I have found myself to be very attracted to and drawn to men with red hair and freckles. I don't know why or how to explain it- can anyone really explain why they're attracted to what they're attracted to? Anyway, I like men- so I find all variations of men attractive. But I do have a soft spot for red heads :-)
Born red-haired; dye without it.
I'm a red-haired, freckle-faced African-American woman, born of African-American parents. People find me generally attractive, and I'm told that I am particularly "cute" because of the hair & freckles. Two of my brothers (red-haired and freckled) are handsome--as well as the brother without the red hair. I think the combination depends on other things like texture, tone, face construction, etc.
fallone, your blog is invite only. Can you invite me?
thanks!
Hmm. I have never really thought about it. While I don't find redheads unattractive, I am not drawn to them physically/sexually, perhaps because I am a medium brown skinned Black woman with dark hair and eyes, and someone with a darker coloring would compliment me better. I suppose it's the same way I feel about short men. Taller men are more appealing.
So, I guess it's like most things we prefer/do not prefer.
Red hair and freckles are adorable! I've never dated anyone with those features but I certainly would if I were single again. Interestingly enough, I have several family members who are considered black but have red hair and freckles. We have quite a few red-heads in my family owing to the fact that we have some Irish ancestors in our recent past. My great grandmother had red-hair and green eyes. I have a brown skin and a big dark-brown afro to go with it. Genes are a funny thing!
Vive la difference!
I am Black and I am a natural red head. I like Black people. I like red hair. so, yes.
P.S. my skin is golden and I have freckles ;)
...we are so versatile~
I find the redhead designer on HGTV handsome. I think it depends on how he is wearing the hair, or how he looks "with" the hair. I think that is what is important. If he looks fine with it then that should not be a problem. I know some men with blonde or dark hair that do not look right with it.
Oh, and to the blog owner, I think it is SOOOO awesome how you are a Christian and are still able to find love outside your race. Unfortunately I don't find too many Christian men open to dating black women, and it's a shame because we are all His children and if anyone should be more understanding it should be Christians.
I LOVE REDHEADS THEY ARE BEAUTIFUL AND POWERFUL AND THAT IS OF BOTH SEXES.
I find redheaded guys irresistible. And those with blue eyes are the best of all.
I'm not black but my grandfather's father was or it was his father. The point is that I love redhaired men.
My grandmother is Af. am. with natural bright red hair and I think it makes he unique. I actually think in terms of instant attraction redheads are sexy but that can change with personality etc.
OK, this may or seem a smigde odd but I'm a black woman who adores redheads after all, I am one. I'm more of a Auburn color but my hair turns up in the summertime. I've actually got a pretty contributory ancestry when it comes to the red given my sir name is McKee. Yeah, people often go WTF? when I joke about celebrating things like St. Patty's Day (which I do every year). I've been told I have freckles as well but I really don't see it. Most people think I'm attractive despite me being a redbone.
I've actually started a redhead social group on one of my entertainment sites that I frequent. We're still fairly new and we do topic discussions of all sorts of redhead attraction. Especially, when it comes to genre of interest we're in, it's anime/manga. An I can say there are several black women in this group who feel like I do.
In the end when it comes down to it, it's to each their own. And despite the physical attractions we as woman and especially black woman are pretty much the same as everyone else. We love who we love and that transcend all else. As much as I love redheads, it gets sacrificed for good loving anyday! Unless, the good loving is being supplied by a fiery companion. XD
BTW, BWtK... you're very handsome yourself and so are those lovely ladies! I found this article googling redheaded black celebrities or people can't remember which.
My fiance is 1/2 irish and he has brown hair and the rest of his body hair is red. I like it and it is unique. I tell him all the time that his red beard makes him look attractive.ilipshar- I hope that are kids will have the red hair or red tones. It is unique.
Hypothetically, I love red hair. I think because I see so many attractive red heads. However, I wouldn't find someone attractive just because they are a redhead.
Well, I am a Black woman who is absolutely obsessed with red hair. I consider myself to be arts and crafts oriented, so I know that I'm looking at the whole red hair thing from an artistic point of view. The contrast of red hair, pale skin and freckles to dark hair and skin is visually appealing to me. Just the thought of such a contrast gets me all tingley. :-)
But then again, it could also be the fact that red hair runs in my family. My father's parents were both half Native American. His mother had and ancestor who was half Black, half Irish. My father had a crazy red Afro with freckles. And my brothers are pretty much the same, minus the red afro. They mostly have red facial and body hair, with red highlights in their hair.
Long story short, yes, I find red hair very attractive (especially the deep, dark reds)...it's almost a borderline obsession at this point. And if redheads weren't so scarce, it would definately be my preference.
I, personally, love redheads! I think the red hair and freckles are so beautiful.
I love it personally. I'm a black woman from the caribbean and I've met a few persons with red hair and freckles going across their nose, it seems to be the common trait of black people I've met with red hair. In white persons I love it also; I find the combination of red hair and green/brown eyes quite attractive.
I am an African-American female with an ethnically diverse gene pool. I have natural red hair and brownish red hued eyes, as is my skin. I don't particularly care for it on myself because my coloring evokes so many stares and some questions from Black and White people. After doing some online reearch I'm beginning to believe that I have a form of albinism that manifests in red hues in the hair/eyes/skin (type 3).
I am a black man and I LOVE red haired women. I think they are more attractive than any other type of women.
I'm a red-haired white man with green eyes and freckles. I'm pretty shy, but love women, and am especially attracted to darker complexioned women, including mediterranian, latina, and black. I love the personalities of black women I've known, they really make me feel at ease and help "loosen me up!"
Just wanted to say thanks to all the ladies who said they love red men. You made me smile today.
YES! Red hair is HOT, HOT, HOT.
